How many wedding invitations will I need to order?

You will only need one wedding invitation per family/household. Where children have moved out of home, are over 18 with a long-term partner or are married they should receive their own wedding invitation. It is customary to send a wedding invitation to guests you already know will not be able to attend your wedding.

Always order more wedding invitations and stationery items than you think you need. You never know whom you may have forgotten to invite, anyway it’s always better to have a few extra invitations on hand than to come up short.

When do I mail my wedding invitations?

Your wedding invitations and reply cards should be mailed at least 6 weeks in prior to your wedding and no more than 6 months in advance. If you wish to give your guest more time than 6 months send out save the date cards prior to your wedding invitations.

It’s always best to mail all of your wedding invitations at the same time. Since your guests may talk, the last thing you want is for one guest to receive an invitation two weeks before another. The person who receives her invitation last might wonder if she was invited as an after thought or because someone else couldn’t make it.

Addressing of the Wedding Invitations

Professional addressing or wedding invitation envelopes is a great way to save time and ensure the quality presentation of your wedding invitations and stationery.  To have your wedding invitation envelopes professionally printed accurately you will need to download our easy to use spreadsheet.  You will have a little extra time to compile your spreadsheet as this will not be required until the printing stage of your wedding invitations.  While we create your wedding invitation proof you may work on your guest list spreadsheet.

If you really want to do the addressing by hand, then be sure to set aside enough time to address only a few wedding invitations at a time to ensure the quality of the writing. If you or someone in your family is good with calligraphy, this might be a time to enlist their assistance in addressing wedding invitations.

Wedding Invitations and Unexpected Guests

You know that a family member will not be able to attend your wedding because of ill health. You want them to feel a part of your wedding day yet, you already know they won’t be able to make it. What should you do?

It is vitally important that you send a wedding invitation to your beloved guest, even if they can’t be present for the wedding and/or reception. By mailing them a wedding invitation, you are making them feel cherished and welcome. Even though they can’t attend, they might be able to send a card or gift, which will make them feel as if she is part of the festivities. It’s nice to know you cared enough about to receive a wedding invitation.

Wedding Invitation Definitions

Wedding invitations are one of the most important and primary parts of planning the wedding celebration.  Wedding Invitations can be DIY, fully printed, partially printed, pre-printed or handwritten.

Fully-printed wedding invitations are printed by a professional like The Wedding Shop.  Professionally printed wedding invitations provides a quality finish and saves time for the bride and groom to work on other wedding plans.

You can find fantastic partially printed or DIY invitations at a reasonable cost, where the invitations is created for you, all you need to do is print the wording.

Handwritten invitations are written by hand in neat, usually using calligraphy. Calligraphy is an artistic, elegant way of writing script with a specialized fountain pen.

Blank invitation cards can be used to create handmade or printed wedding invitations. These wedding invitations should be printer friendly for both laser and ink jet printers.

A couple should order their wedding invitations at least 3-6 months in advance so that there is plenty of time to receive them, complete them and send them out. This also allows a bit of time to address envelopes if necessary.
